Our next custom kitchen cabinet project will be on Chestnut Street in Kitchener. We are building wide rail shaker kitchen cabinets and doors for this project. The upper and lower cabinets will be painted cloud white, while the island and custom hutch in the dinning area will be painted Santorini blue. This contemporary style will fit perfectly in this fully renovated turn of the century home.
There are many things to consider when choosing kitchen cupboards! Here are the most important details I recommend focusing on:
Materials – Solid wood is always a great choice for kitchen cabinetry, but other materials like metal, Thermoform, stainless steel, and melamine are readily available.
Door style – A door style exists for every person, whether it be very traditional or contemporary or ultra-modern. More complicated wood detailing, like raised panels and beading, are generally more expensive and require more work to clean.
Finish – Solid wood cabinet doors can be left in their natural state or can be finished or stained. Decorative finishes are available—distressing, glazing, crackle, and more. Remember that lighter cabinets actually hide dirt better than darker ones do.
Drawers - There are many choices when it comes to the drawer box construction too! Simple melamine or Metal sided Meta box drawers are most common and are less expensive. Solid wood drawers, especially dove tailed ones, will most certainly last a lifetime. Full extension and soft close are also nice features to consider.
Hardware – Hardware can really impact the final look of your cabinets. It can either dress them up or down and make them look more contemporary, country, or traditional. Knobs and drawer pulls are easy and inexpensive to change later in comparison to cabinet doors or finishes.
